Lauren Chan is a size inclusion advocate who began her career as a plus-size model at New York City’s Ford Models. When she wasn’t working with clients like Vera Wang or Christian Siriano, Chan also worked as a freelance fashion writer with institutions like Vogue, Interview, and the New York Times’ T Magazine.
She later landed at Glamour as the fashion features editor, where she oversaw the fashion news team, covered the womenswear market, and personally owned the plus-size fashion beat. Highlights of her tenure included appearances on Good Morning America and the Today Show, and speaking engagements for Instagram, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Chan went on to launch Henning, a brand of ethical luxury womenswear for women size 12 and up. Henning was celebrated in Vogue, the New York Times, Forbes, Business of Fashion, WWD, Elle, InStyle, and the Cut, and was acquired by Universal Standard in 2023.
For her work as a journalist, entrepreneur, and size inclusion activist, Chan is the recipient of honours and awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors, Condé Nast, the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, Create & Cultivate, and more.
Chan is passionate about the areas of size inclusion, women’s entrepreneurship, AAPI and LGBTQ+ communities, and mental health. Outside of work, Chan serves as an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association, an Advisory Board Member for the Model Alliance, a jury member for the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, and a guest lecturer at America’s top fashion universities, including Parsons, NYU, FIT, and SCAD.
Chan has been featured as an influencer in campaigns for clients like Valentino, Chanel, Google, J.Crew, Old Navy, Rent the Runway, Anthropologie, Adidas, and more.
