Matt Jackson is a Set Designer and Prop Stylist working in media ranging from editorial to print, motion advertising, film and theatre. His career began with his mentorship under renowned scenographer Mary Kerr at the University of Victoria. While studying art, theatre and performance design, he became the first undergraduate to design main stage productions for the Phoenix Theatre. After winning the Critic's Choice Spotlight Award for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design, Matt graduated with distinction and was included on the Dean's List. After graduation, Matt moved to Toronto, where he founded Ecce Homo Theatre with director and writer Alistair Newton.
The company produces aesthetically challenging political theatre and has won several accolades. Matt has also created in-store and window displays for Urban Outfitters and acted as a design consultant for boutiques including Toronto's Ruins on Queen St. West. Matt has worked for publications such as Flare, Another Magazine, V, VMan, The New York Times Magazine, Harper's Bazaar Korea, Redbook, Schon, and FASHION. His advertising clients include Hudson’s Bay, Shinsegae, Winners, Yorkdale, Sirens and Daks.
Matt is currently collaborating with acclaimed art photographer Ryan McGinley on a series of short films and photo essays for publications such as the New York Times Magazine and Nowness.
